cooking4life was one of my main projects.

My cooking community site. After a short time, an Android app was added, and eventually a Windows UWP app as well. At one point, the Android app had 100.000 installs, and over 4.000 users visited the website each month.

Technology

At first, the website served more as a playground for writing a Facebook app. But over time, it really grew on me.

It serves as the foundation for other experimental projects, such as the Android app or the Microsoft UWP app. I experimented a lot with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and frequently updated and modernized the layout. In the end, the website was responsive thanks to Bootstrap and could be used on a phone or tablet. The Android app was a native Android app without any additional libraries. The Microsoft UWP app was simply a website wrapper with Live Tiles that were updated via an RSS feed.

Among other things, there was a custom-built achievement engine, which is perhaps worth mentioning separately. Achievements were generated by actions taken by other users or by the user’s own actions.

Due to time constraints, I decided to shut down cooking4life after 10 years. I also wanted to try something new for a change ;-)
